Market Numbers Hide Truth

"We're the healthiest horse in the glue factory." That's Creighton University economics professor Ernie Goss on KFAB today quoting former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY) quoting fellow debt commission leader Erskine Bowles, former Clinton White House chief of staff and nationally prominent Democrat, on how robust financial market indicators can hide the true state of the nation's overall, long-term fiscal situation.

Bowles said "best-looking horse" but the point is the same. We're headed for a fiscal Niagara Falls. We look better fiscally than Greece and other western nations right now, but we're headed in the same direction toward fiscal disaster.
