Bring on the Balanced Budget Amendment

It's going to take that kind of mandate from the people to get Congress to quit spending more than the government takes in.

I realize that mandating a balanced budget doesn't guarantee reduced spending and lower taxes. I found out in the Nebraska Legislature that you can balance a budget by raising taxes instead of cutting spending.

But at least we would quit sticking our children and grandchildren with the tab for our spending. That's what borrowing and deficit spending has done.

I would allow an override of the balanced budget requirement by 3/4 vote of both houses of Congress.
