Will Obama Condemn Drive-By Breeding?

In connection with Father's Day this year, Barack Obama "went Cosby" and made some strong statements about fatherhood. Now if we could channel some of that fatherhood impulse into not leaving newborns in the hospital's soiled utility closet to cry themselves to death.

In society generally, but especially in the black community, the belief that government can solve all your problems has reached fever pitch with the election of Obama.

Welfare advocates might be able to squeeze more money out of the government and "spread the wealth around," but the problems plaguing the black community, and spreading across racial and ethnic lines, will not be solved until the out-of-wedlock birth rate is brought back down into single digits.

It's two-thirds in the black community. It's over 30% in Douglas County, Nebraska.

Obama could do so much good by calling out all men, not just black men, on this issue.

I volunteer to keep sharp instruments away from Jesse Jackson.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a President Obama making restoring traditional family values a priority of his administration. Between the "progressives", the current black community and the gay-rights movement, Obama won't do anything beyond paying lip service since he needs this coalition if he has ideas of a second term. He firmly believes that government has a right and duty to take money from the productive and give it to the nonproductive for "fairness". He wants government to do even more than it has in the past, which under LBJ's great society programs did the most damage to poor, black families. I've been horrified seeing all the usual liberal talking heads cheering Obama's victory as the death of individualism in the US...and literally weeping with joy at the prospect of a huge tide of collectivism. The experiment known as the US has officially failed and the "moochers" will drive it into the ground.

Your post left me hanging, Chip. I was waiting for your proposed solution to the problem, since conservatives seem to have all the answers these days. Your post is a perfect example of why McCain lost the election, he was too focused on attacking Obama and not focused on proposing solutions to the problems we face.

It takes almost no courage or intelligence to criticize someone or simply observe a problem that anyone can see. Your criticism of Obama on one hand and the black community on the other hand does nothing to solve the problem of out-of-wedlock births.

Obama thinks that improving economic conditions for working class people can help to reduce pregnancy outside of marriage and abortion. Education and opportunity have been emperically shown to be the only things that reduce birth rates. This won't solve the problem, but it has the potential to improve things significantly. Your solution?

The solution to out-of-wedlock births and the poverty it comes from and causes is to stop supporting it. By throwing money at unwed mothers and their offspring, we are inadvertently incenting more of such behavior. Turn the problem over to private charities, they can operate outside the current bounds of PC program design and already do have positive impact. I suppose your solution is taking more money from the productive and giving it to the unproductive (except for babies that is) or taxpayer funded abortions.
