Prop 8 Showdown Brewing

Lawsuits have been filed challenging the state constitutional amendment approved by California voters that defined marriage as a union of a man and a woman.

At this point it isn't even the subject that matters. It's the democratic process.

Perhaps there were errors in the petition process for the amendment of which I am unaware. Absent something technical or procedural such as that, this is a moment of truth where the core of the American system of government is at stake. The people of California have voted on a public policy issue. The constitution supersedes all three branches of government, including the courts.

At least it's supposed to. The constitution is the direct expression of the will of the people, who are sovereign. If a disgruntled minority can get a court to judicially veto a valid expression of the will of the people on a public policy matter, that invites actual rebellion from the majority. See: Roe v. Wade.

Prediction...the same CA state supreme court that invalidated the last traditional marriage protection amendment will do so again probably on the same 5-4 vote. Someday soon you're going to take off those Jesuit-inspired rose colored populist glasses and see public policy making for what it really is...a concerted effort of the secular left wing liberal interests to redefine the USA into one of their socialist workers' paradises. They will succeed and it will exist for a period of time...then it will collapse as such experiments always do. All any logical person can do is prepare as best as one can and hope to be there when/if a new USA is reborn.
