The John McCain You Don't Know

A friend sent me a Wall Street Journal column by Karl Rove about John McCain. It is great medicine for those of us suffering what pundits call McCain Derangement Syndrome.

This is something I have sensed and liked about McCain -- a no-nonsense, stand-up manhood.

McCain's wife came back from Mother Teresa's orphanage in Bangladesh with a baby in her arms that needed special care. McCain did what a real man does -- take it in stride without making a fuss about it.

The column has other examples of remarkable things about McCain that are not known publicly.

Maybe McCain or his campaign is prompting Rove and others to publicize these things. That's OK. Rove is right that the public needs to know such things. People are so cynical about politics and politicians. A dose of positive and even inspiring news about a national politician is welcome.

I am no fan of McCain the politician, but I will sleep better at night knowing these things about his character. Now if he would just remain silent on the campaign trail . . .

I saw one web site that mocked the Rove column about McCain the "certifiable saint." Let the elitist twits mock on. These revelations about McCain will resonate with the populist majority of Americans.

John McCain is the lesser-of-two-evils choice for conservatives in the upcoming presidential election. The only real thing that matters is that he will do less damage to the country than either Obama/Clinton. Or you can waste your vote by going for the libertarian candidate or Ron Paul when he makes an independent bid. All of which will only serve to elect Obama/Clinton.
